If you try the IRS number - due to high volume they are not accepting calls - so you have to go the the FTC website and file the complaint that goes into the black hole. These people threatened to steal my car if I didn't pay. The best way to get rid of them is to tell them you are an attorney. They will then hang up on you. But, why do we pay so much taxes for protection from this kind of crap.
My friend got a call from that number. Her daughter called them back and told them she was with the Sheriff's Office. What the guy said to her next is not fit to print here. To say the least, it was a very vulgar comment.
Received a call today from this number - and same message: we were being sued by the IRS and needed to call back immediately. Had received two calls last week with the same message - but they left a different number. We called our tax guy, and he confirmed the IRS would not call and leave a message - the IRS would sent a letter in the mail, not make a phone call like this.
Received a phone call, moments ago, from 1-202-455-6990 and I let it go directly to voicemail. The recorded message gave only the telephone number listed by everyone above, but I knew it had to be either be a political message or a fraudulent scam. Unfortunately, after checking the number here first, it was obviously the latter. Whatever you do, never directly respond to their direct or recorded message of false IRA accusations. As mentioned above, the IRA never contacts anyone my phone in regard to a potential audit, or actual fraud, etc. It's always done by direct mail alone. Just contact and/or file a complaint with either the IRS.gov or FTC online sites listed above on found on their websites.
Few moments ago received a robot call from this # - let go to voicemail and lo and behold, the IRS was calling (THEY NEVER CALL) to tell me they were filing a lawsuit against me and to please call them at his #. Obviously a scam - will add my complaint to the voluminous numbers already filed with the IRS.
