Heavily accented man told me he was from the government and I was eligible for a $9000 grant, I asked him what department of the government and he said "Washington DC" I informed him that is not a department that is a city. He then asked me several questions - I told him I was not comfortable giving out personal information on a phone call and he asked why - I told him I think this call may be a scam and I wasn't going to give information like that out. He told me "F*** you, I hope you die soon". I tried to call the number back - it was not in service.

This isn't the first time I've received a call from a guy with a heavy accent (Asian perhaps?). He claims that his name is William Snider and works for the Federal Grants department. He said that he is calling from the United States.
These people calle dme saying that I received a $9000 federal grant for having a clean record and I was randomly selected. The 1st problem: he didn't have my correct last name nor did he have my correct zip code. Then he gives me a number to call: 315-791-7097 this is a NY number. He gave me a code to tell the people at the number he gave me. When I called and left a message at the second number, because they didn't pick up, a guy called me back with a "fake" accent. Asking me what I would be doing with the money because I can't use it illegally. Then he tells me in order for me to receive the grant I have to "register" under a federal government name by paying $279. This has to be done to confirm who I am and release the grant. Doesn't make sense to me. If you are giving me $9000 I'm sure you could just pay $279 upfront for my "registration" fee. So they are scammers! If they weren't they would have known my last name, my marital status, and my zip code. They also wouldn't need any money from me. When I got grants from school I didn't have to pay anything. So NO Thank you!!
