They called me twice saying I was being sued. I asked why. They asked if my name was Sarah. I said no and they immediately hung up. They called me a few hours later so I called them back because they had the wrong number and I wanted them to stop calling. The lady insisted that it was not the wrong number and I was being sued. Then she asked if my name was Sarah. I said no and she hung up again.
Received multiple calls and voicemails today (February 3, 2016) from this number (or other 202-569-xxxx numbers). A prerecorded message that seems to be about taxes, but unclear.
I have been getting calls from this number for the past two days. First no voicemail was left and now they leave the same message stating that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me. I have called several times and I don't get anyone or anything...
I received 4 voice mail messages (recorded) yesterday from this number and from 202-754-8446 stating that it was the IRS and they were filing a lawsuit against me. Both of these numbers came up on my caller ID with the phone number but "UNKNOWN NAME" as the caller. Hmmm....I figured it was a scam but I called them back to see what information I could get from them so that I could notify the real IRS and give them the information the scammer gave me. He answered the phone on the first ring.....red flag #1. He spoke very broken English...red flag #2. He said that they were going to freeze my bank accounts, etc and send an officer to my home at the end of business with a warrant and notify the courts if I didn't "get this matter of unpaid tax bills taken care of now as it was time sensitive". I told him that the IRS does not contact people via phone for payment of tax bills, etc. I then hung up on him. There is a TIGNA site for the IRS that you can report this to. This way they can keep track of the numbers the scammers are calling from. Also, a further look into these numbers.....they are outside the US.
