Getting daily calls from this number or others on the list Chris posted above. It's obviously a robo-call. They are clogging my message system with hangup calls. I seldom answer the phone unless I know who it is. What a nuisance!
The Do-Not-Call list only applies to law-abiding telemarketers, not to scammers (if they can get away with it). I, too, am on the Do-Not-Call registry, which, by the way has to be renewed once every five years.
I use a Panasonic cordless phone that lets me store familiar numbers in the phone book with a different ring associated with these numbers. Any number not stored rings the default tone.
I can also store up to 20 numbers in my phone's call-block list, and I reserve that for the times that I receive unwanted callers who either are very persistent or who leave a zero-length message, or a message that I am not interested in, such as Credit Card Services scams.
My procedure is to let it ring, if it is not a familiar number, especially when I am not expecting a call. These callers MUST leave a message to warrant my further attention.
202-609-7609 is identified as "DIST OF COLUMBI" in the caller id, losing the ending A because of a lack of display space, and it has been a very persistent cuss. I have picked up on this number only to hear it disconnect, a couple of times just out of curiosity.
It has earned a place on the blocked caller list. What happens when a blocked call comes in is that I hear one ring, the phone receives caller id information and sends the caller a busy signal.
It has cut down on the number of telephone rings in my house!
They are political calls from the DC area. Call and Write the white house so they are bothered by calls. The Government gives out list of phone numbers for organizations because it is not illegal or a privacy issue (yep that is right), so perhaps they should be harrassed by phone calls like everyone else is!

calls daily, never says anything when I pick up (because I wait for them to talk first). So, a robo-caller waiting for me to talk so they can switch me to some thug for a verbal smackdown? or maybe really is politicians? who cares, tired of the calls. gonna maybe take out the land line I think. Hey! maybe it's the phone company trying to annoy us all so we'll ALL switch to cells only !!
