The gentleman called and stated that I had been selected by the federal government to receive a grant because I filed my taxes on time, I don't have a criminal record and I've never filed bankruptcy! After he stated those thing he went on to ask me for a checking acct or a debit card number that he can transfer the grant money to, I declined giving him my personal information and asked him to send me the grant money in the form of a check or even a prepaid card and the caller hung up on me!! Just proves that whomever these people are, are fraudulent and can't prove that the represent the federal government
this is exactly what happened to me as well. I too asked about the check and he said that the government had selected 16,000 people to receive this, thus the only two payment options were through a savings account or credit card. Another scam give-away was that at first he said the grant was $8 thousand something, and then the next time he referenced it he said $3,400.
