2nd call today so I let the phone answer it and sat quietly until someone said something. A thick Indian accented man asked for me by name claiming he worked for the US Government in the Grants department of the US Treasury and told me I randomly qualified for an $8,400 free grant for being a good citizen (LOL). I managed to keep him on the phone almost 6 minutes to waste as much of his time as possible but in the end he's just going to call someone else.
This is a complete SCAM!!!
DO NOT:
1.) Give these people any of your personal information
2.) Give these people your bank account number
3.) Fall for these types of scams or you'll end up with an empty bank account
DO:
1.) Keep these people on the phone as long as you can and waste as much of their time as possible
2.) Report your experience here and anywhere else you can think of
He got to the point of not having a criminal record I told him that I do have a criminal record and he asked what did I do to get it . I said if you are the government you know what I did .. No more conversation.. LoL
indian sounding guy with some type of "US Grant" = said i have $8,400 coming to me because i dont have criminal record etc etc = sounded like a huge scam = he said he needs my personal info and bank account info etc... i just hung up after reading all these posts from others = thank you for saving me
I got 2 calls... so far today.. from 202-666-5197. The first call, I missed and no message left. The second call, I picked up and gave them an "I don't [***] around "hello"'. They hung up. Unfortunate. I hope I get to talk to them. :-)
