I have had a couple of these calls. Called back on a non identifiable line assuming it was a scam call. I had to let the phone ring a long time (10 rings) and the ring was very strange (broken ring) as if it was being routed to another place. A woman answered and there was lots of noise in the background as if she was at a pay phone or sitting in a call center with lots of people talking. I didn't talk to her but she identified herself as IRS.
Rec'd vmail msg from Wash DC area code (didn't answer, I don't know anyone in that area). Female computerized voice stated they were calling from the IRS and the IRS was "filing suit" against me and to find out more information on my case file call 202-677-9161 immediately. I googled IRS scams & they have a warning about this issue.
just received a call that matches the postings listed above from a woman with a significant foreign accent saying she is from the Dept of Treasury trying to intimidate me to pay taxes from past years immediately or I would be given an arrest warrant by a sheriff. I got cut off and the phone number did not answer when I tried to immediately call the number back. the number on my phone is 2026576381 but I have seen this 2026779161 number in the past. Scam.
TOTal scam. Local law enforcement has absolutely nothing to do with federal tax disputes and the IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law for anything. People are not arrested in the US for discrepancies on tax returns. If LE is necessary federal marshals to the job. Ignore and block these calls!
Got a call for (Washington DC) Number 1-202-677-9161 saying there was a lawsuit from my taxes from the IRS threatened 6200 dollar fine, five years of jail and needed the money right away. Getting the police involved right away as well.
