I just had the same type of call come to my office. If I had not pulled up this website while I was still on the phone with them, they might have succeeded in their little scheme. I am curious to know, where is everyone from? I got this call in Marietta, GA.
I have to answer the phone because it's part of my job, and this repeat calling is nerve-wracking and aggravating. This is a busy office and we have no time for jokers. And it's totally unfair that a person has to pay a fee to stop the harrassment! I suppose if this person was coming personally into the office everyday and disrupting the work, I could call security to get rid of them. But because it's phone harrassment, a fee has to be paid?
I received a call from this number today. The caller had an Indian accent, and said he was with "The American Yellow Pages" and asked if we wanted to "renew" our advertising with them. I told him we didn't advertise with them or any other yellow pages. He said I could look on the Internet for our listing. I told him I didn't care if they had us listed. He continued to say we were their "customer" and I repeatedly told him to get lost (although I used slightly different language). This is the second time this month that someone has called our business to get us to "renew" a yellow pages advertisement that doesn't actually exist.
They are trying to say that I am listed with them. I told them repeatedly that I am not interested and take me off their phone list. He then proceeded to ask me if I wanted to cancel my listing with them. I said I am not listed with you, I am not interested, take me off your phone list. I then procedeed to tell him that he had violated every telemarketing rule: he heard his 3 no's, I am on a do not call list and if he calls again I will turn in his company.
He still kept saying "you want to cancel your order" to me. I have no order this is a scam!!
This is not a legit business and I am going to turn them into the National Fraud Center at: http://www.fraud.org I would encourage everybody to do the same thing. This way the fraud center will see that it is happening to other people.
One thing that I would suggest is get that website that they want to show you and save the address to turn in as well. (I unfortunately did not give this guy the time of day to show me his website.)
I was called by "American Yellow Pages." Apparentely, they tricked my predecessor a few years back into authorizing renewal of our subscription, and we were actually billed! I kept telling the called I didn't have the authorization to accept nor to pass on any invoices to anyone, and he yelled at me. I then told him that I'd have to call him back with authorization, but he said I couldn't call him back. I asked if he could call tomorrow. He said no. It finally dawned on me that something fishy was going on, so I told him I had to put him on hold and called my manager on the other line. The guy hung up on me. I hope that means that we won't be billed. I am worried about our info being sold, though. I am going to report them as frauds.
