It is NOT the Republican Party, probably from another country and they are pretending to be legit for scam purposes. They do not, and will not call on a Sunday. Stop being a sucker and believing who they say they are.
I am receiving multiple calls on a line that I reserve for EMERGENCIES. Sometimes when they occur, I am involved in an EMERGENCY, and sometimes I'm trying to sleep because I work odd hours. Two times I got an automated voice requesting that I push "1" in order to not be called. I pushed "1" both times, and if anything the call frequency has increased, but it remains silent without message.
I just answered a call from this number, and after a pause there was a beep, which indicates the call is being recorded. Then a fellow came on the line and said he was calling on behalf of a republican candidate and that the call was being recorded. I said I knew the call is being recorded and declined to talk to him.
This is my policy: When I make a call I know is going to be recorded by the other party, I set up my tablet to record and put the phone on speaker, so that I also have a recording of the call. Of course, I tell the other party that I am recording, which is all that is required legally. Unless I have time to set up the tablet and record an incoming call, I do not talk to the caller, and I tell them so.
Whenever there are reports of multiple CIDs coming from the same phone number and using different spiels (ie. Rep/Dem poll) as is being reported here it means there's a debt collector using subterfuge in an attempt to confirm your identify and match it to your phone number. Anyone checking these boards has likely also been receiving similar dubious calls from other spoofed numbers & CIDs using the same seemingly bizarre MO. This is a tactic of debt collectors and skip tracers. They rotate various spoofed numbers pretty much non-stop hoping to dupe you into answering one of them. This can go on for months or even years with new spoofs periodically thrown into the rotation. These trolls have purchased old charged off debt, likely out of the statute of limitations, and all they have is a spreadsheet with a name and outdated info. If they can associate you with your phone number the collection harassment will begin. It's possible, however, that your number previously belonged to the person they're actually looking for, but if you have any old debt (even from 20 yrs ago) there's a good chance it's you they're trying to ID. Block them or ignore them, but never answer unless you're positive it's not you they're looking for.
There's an interesting post at www.callercenter.com/202-715-5552.html from 4/15/15 that seems to confirm it's a debt collector: "called - asked for me using my name- when I identified myself, hung up immediately. male caller."
