A guy with a heavy accent from a foreign county left me a message saying that they are the criminal dept for IRS and I have a defect in my income taxes and serious allegations exist. I called them back, same guy answered the phone, he started swearing at me and I told him his number was blocked and I am not falling for his crap.
I received a call that came from my local county's sheriff's office (I checked the number on caller ID and it was my local sheriff's office) he said he was office #3005 and that there had been a federal complaint about me and that I was to call Officer Shawn Woods from the IRS at 202-747-0283. When I called the number, it said that all circuits were busy. I am glad I found this web page and confirmed that it is all a hoax.
recording said it was the IRS. Knew it was a scam so I called back (*67 blocked my number). Call center (lots of conversations in the background) dude (heavy India accent) picked up and I asked if it was the fake IRS. Said I was calling his cell and hung up. I did it again and was put on hold, eventually connected with a non accented woman, found out she had called the number to complain about the call. Indian guy said he connected us cause we were both not going to give him any money (pretty bold IMO). I told the lady it was a scam and just to hang up. I called a third time and after a few minutes on hold I was connected with the New Haven FBI (sounded legit and apparently happens often cause the FBI guy (no accent) said the scammer was just rolling the number over to them). At that point (after I threw out curry-muncher, cow-kisser and Kuthi (which the internet says means B#$ch in some Indian dialects)) I think the FBI guy hung up and the scammer started yammering about what state I was in (must have been this mornings state to troll) so I decided to hang up and move on with my day. Totally childish on my part but I figure I may have kept him from troubling someone else for a few minutes.
