Came through as Cell Phone DC on the caller id. Answered and after a brief moment where the call connected, the person said, "This is the U.S. Government and you have been selected to receive a $9000 grant from the government. I'm sure you..." I cut her off. She could barely speak English. The call center was SO LOUD that I could barely hear her. And when I told her it was a scam she hung up on me. There is another site where nearly a hundred people have reported the same call with various responses from the callers including "f&^k off." Btw, they won't mail a check, they will only deposit money directly to your bank account (which means giving them personal information so they can steal your stuff) and others have stated that they want you to pay first. Um... no.
Received this call from the above stated ph#. I won a grant for $8400 and that it was from the Federal Grants Department in DC. Heavy Indian accent, and broken English. When I asked for a badge/ID number there was hesitation and obviously on was made up. Asked if I wanted to receive the $$$$ via direct deposit or Western Union. I chose Western Union. He then gave another phone number, which I called and it was either busy or the said to call back. I mean obviously it's a scam and I knew once the number showed up on the caller ID. Just please don't give any personal information...they already have the basics, such as name and address. I put a credit lock and notification to the credit bureaus. Monitor all your accounts to be sure of fraudulent activity...DO NOT GIVE BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION!!! EVER!!!
Obvious foreign telemarketing style scam, I immediately start blasting them and they disconnect call. First call was marked unknown number 2nd call listed as 202-754-8333 from Washington DC. She couldn't even pronounce her name let alone say US Government. Horrible scam but I'm sure some fall for it.
