Yet another call supposedly from Microsoft Tech. Caller ID was listed as Miranda Franklin.  The caller had a very heavy indian accent.  They called 5 times last week all from different numbers.  Last year I spent time talking to them thinking it was legitiment and they wanted me to buy a security program for $399.  I said I'd buy a new computer for that and hung up. They are persistent and always call back several times.

I just received a call from 202-769-7777; the caller said he was calling because I had a virus on my computer.  the caller said he could fix it.  I ask him how much it would cost. "Free".  I advise his that I would check his company out, he then gave me 202-769-7777 to call why he waited on the phone.  I advise him to stop talking. I then hung up.  I will not call that number Microsoft will not be calling me or anyone with this type of bogus, fraud, scam.....

We got a call from this number listed as "Washington DC"  We played along with them.  Because we are a computer IT company, we knew this was bogus.  We recorded the whole conversation and plan to post it on our Facebook page to warn others.  He has a very thick Indian accent, very hard to understand.  But told us we had infections on our computer.  The company he said he was calling from Sofort Technologies (or maybe Soford).  I looked it up on line to see if I could see if the company existed and I couldn't find anything.  If you get a call from someone telling you you have a virus or infection on your computer, do NOT panic.  Do NOT continue with them.  Write down any information they may tell you, get a name, a contact number, etc. and report them on a site like this to let others know of the scam.  They can not detect if you are infected from a remote location unless they have had some sort of access to your computer.  You can call your IT person to verify any infections with an easy to use spyware software.  There are free ones you can download.  Please don't fall for these calls and definitely give them NO information about you or your computer.

I just received a call from this number saying they were with Microsoft Windows technical support.  They told me my Windows program was infected.  I do not own a windows computer.

I got Mike to give me my unique license ID # 888DCA60FC0A11CF8F0F00C04FDD062 that had my phone number attached to it.

Once I told him I did not own a computer that had Windows on it, he asked me if anyone else in my household did.  I confirmed that we did not and pressed him for info about how he got my number.  He insisted it was from the Unique license ID #.

I just told him I would report the misinformation and hung up on him.

I am sure he is just someone trying to make a living- even if it is for a scam company.  But beware, if you're not even remotely savvy they've got an answer for everything.  I really did not think he would be able to give me a unique license ID, but he made it up on the fly.
