Roger...
My phone call sounds like most of the reported calls listed earlier.  In my case this computer is well protected and it is in constant scanning mode by one of the 12-available threads because of the sensitive nature of the work here.  In addition there are various approaches of scans running complete drive and network scans each night when the gateway is blocked.  It is a unlikely problem for this computer to be infected.

When I asked the person how he knew this was an infected computer he said he was getting messages from it during the day.  When I heard that I told him to use the email address in the message being sent to send me a bunch of the messages he gets by email and then hung up.

This computer's location is secure and the number he called is an unlisted number that is not listed anywhere on this computer or from what I'm told anywhere else.  Just the fact they called that number and believed they could say with any certainty that this computer is infected told me this call was a waste of time.

More than likely this was "Phishing" scam hoping to infect the machine.  Local protection would have triggered alarms and dialogs to reporting the blocking events.  However, others with less protection would certainly be at the mercy of the infection applied.

I got my call today on my unlisted cell phone. The first person I spoke with had such a thick Indian accent, I said I needed to speak to someone who spoke english. I was passed to Harry Smith who also had a thick Indian accent but at least spoke slowly and deliberately. He gave me another number to call back on and said to ask for him.
He said he was from WINDOWS Tech Support and that my computer was sending messages to Windows saying I had a virus. I said so you are with Microsoft? He said no, Microsoft will not call you so we are trying to help you. He asked me to log onto my computer which I couldn't do as I wasn't home. I said this is a scam and he insisted he was just trying to help me. I got home and did a number search and ended up here.
Never did get a name of the company, only that the call originates from Washington DC

I talked to him a little while ago. Same conversation as the rest of you except he gave me his number to call back and even offered his office address - 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington D.C.  I said "you work at the White House?" and he said "yes".  I told him he's ridiculous and hung up.

202-769-7777---->The caller had a very heavy indian accent. Said that windows server notice problems and to log on and he was going to show me how to fix them. I ask for a return phone because i was not near my computer and of course he did not have a call back number.
