I just received a phone call from 202-864-2535. Don't answer it. It's a scam big time. It's the same message about pay back taxes money you owe.They say they are from Washington DC, don't believe them.....
Got 2 calls within 3 hours today, stating that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me. Very poor grammar and pronunciation were the first hints that this is not legit, then I remembered hearing that the IRS does NOT call you. If they want to get a hold of someone, they send correspondence by mail, registered if it's really important or time-sensitive. Good thing I didn't take my husband's advice and call the number back. Just like the saying, "If it sounds too good to be true...", if it doesn't sound right, it probably isn't. This is a scam, folks.
This is a total scam, and a very poorly crafted one. I guess they are now using a computer-generated American-accent female voice because their obvious Indian/Philipine/Pakistan accents, when they used to call in person, are a dead giveaway.
The IRS would never call you directly--they would send you a certified letter telling you that you owe money. Do not fall for this scam that probably originates from India.
It is too bad our government cannot do something about this, like send a malicious virus through the phone line to attack their communications center. Wishful thinking on my part.
Received a call from the same number telling me that they were the IRS and asking money to be wired to Anna Revira in Colarado. This is an IRS fraud, please do not respond to this call. I was asked to go to 7/11 and wire money through Moneygram. If you revised a phone call, please do not follow their instructions. This is a scam. I reported my case to my local police. Please do the same.
