Caller said he was calling from New York. My wife answered. He wanted to know if we wanted to renew our directory ad. My wife told him no -- we do not have any ads -- he had to talk to me -- he could not accept the denial from me. I took the phone and told him we never had a directory ad -- he said fine, he would cancel and send the final invoice for $400.00 +. I told him I never placed such an order. He continued to tell me how I ordered said service (false) until I asked my wife for the caller id -- he hung up. (during the conversation, he said he was with Southern company -- would not be more specific!)
11-20-08 called me 4 times today on my cellphone wanting to know if I wanted to continue doing business in his business directory. If I did not want to contimue he would send me a final invoice for $500.+ I stated that I did not know who he was or his business directory company. I hung up and he immediately called back. I told him again that I did not know what he was talking about and to not call me again.
I have been seeing this number pop up on my cell phone repeatedly over the last couple of weeks but since I did not recognize it, I never picked up. There was never a message. I am self employed and use it as my business phone. When I try to call it back, it says that it is out of service.
I just got another call from this number and decided to answer it. A man with a heavy Indian accent asked me if I wished to continue my listing in the Satin Exchange business directory for another year. I think I have the company name right - he was extrememly difficult to understand and I had to ask him the spelling several times. I asked for the business address and he said that he was out of New York.
I said no and that I had never subscribed to any business directory. He said that he would cancel my listing but would be billing me $499 for my 2007-2008 listing. I told him that he could bill me but under no circumstances would I pay for any listing that I never authorized. I asked for a contract with my signature and he said that it was phone authorized. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me that he was the supervisor. I said that I didn't care and wanted to speak to someone else and he said that he would cancel my account and add me to the do not call list and hung up.
After reading all of the other threads here, I would doubt if I ever get a bill and if I do, I will forward it to an investigative agency.
