A woman with indian accent called today and told me that my computer was involved in illegal activities.
I said: "Do not tell me you are from Microsoft", she said "No I'm not from Microsoft, but Microsoft has signed your ip address over to our company". I told her that my computer is scanned from a security company frequently and hung up. Why are this people not taken out of business?
Love these clowns. Unfortunately, I was out of town when they called. I usually bait them for a minute or so. As I talk, I lower my voice slowly. After I ask them If they can hear me in a low voice, I hit them with an air horn into the phone. Good times!
I managed to keep this one on the line for about ten minutes to waste his time. Dude, if you can't even tell me which version of Windows I'm running, I have a hard time believing it's actually "sending" you errors.
Gotta love these guys - they're calling about "windows" on your computer but they are NOT from MicroSoft ... and all they want you to do, because they have detected a serious problem, is to enter the information they are providing you for "FREE" ...
It is so much fun when these idiots call - I sometimes keep them on the phone for about 30 minutes acting as if I'm actually going through all of the actions they are telling me are necessary. I write done the string of numbers they want me to enter and then tell them that I entered them and they don't work - then I repeat the numbers back to them either leaving out one or changing a couple. Of course then they want to correct them so we go through the entire thing again and I again say they don't work - this can go on three or four times before I ask if the problem might be that I use a Mac and do not have Windows installed on my computer. The fool then says "no this works on a Mac too" - at which time I tell them I really haven't been entering anything that I actually work for law enforcement and I needed them on the phone long enough to trace their call.
Just got a call from the "computer support department" from this number. Said over the passed week my PC had been doing weird things and downloading randomly. That was interesting because I have a laptop and it hasn't been turned ON for over 3 weeks... clearly a scam.
It's a boiler room operation probably using a "spoofed" (computer generated fake) phone number, to give a pretense of legitimacy to various phone scams their running. Most recently claiming to be "tech support" trying to get people to get on their computers and give them remote access to fix an imaginary problem. Once in they'll black mail you to get control of your system back, or possibly just steal your passwords and access private information.
