I received a call from this number and they asked for "Gerald". (I have had this number since 1999, so I believe she was just throwing a name out there.) I informed her that she had a wrong number and she said, "Well, maybe you can help me." Then she proceeded to tell me that she was raising funds for breast cancer victims who can't afford treatment or accessories, etc. and wanted me to give her my address so she could send me an envelope to send in a donation. I told her no thanks and she said to have a nice day. I don't know if it's legit or a scam, but I NEVER give out my address to people I don't know or haven't called myself, and I NEVER donate to people who call or come to the door looking for handouts. I donate plenty; just not in the aforementioned way.
Sounds like a scam. I went through a few of those in a row about a year ago. Also, watch out for people stopping by your house talking about being a security company and asking a bunch of questions. It's a growing trend and definitely shady!
Called in the evening and said they were asking for a donation to help women who could not afford the cost of their drugs for breast cancer. They asked if they could count on me for a donation and when I replied that I would have to check out their charity before I could consider a donation they said "thank-you" and hung up.
rec'd call from this number and before the call was even finished I had googled the number and came across this page - thanks all for the reports so I knew not to even answer. they did not leave a message. as someone who recently was scammed by a cancer faker I probably would have gone off on the caller had I answered. there's nothing lower than faking cancer or collecting fake donations that don't go to actual cancer patients.
