Just got a call but they hung up before I could answer. Interesting that if they're trying to get people to fall for some scam, they hang up before anyone can answer in most cases, it seems. What sense does that make? Maybe they just have a bad auto-dialing system and don't know it. Serves 'em right!
Just got a call myself on a cell phone that I don't usually get any calls on. Just rang and when reached to pick it up they hung up. Came thru as Brunswick, ME on my phone ID. Really weird and it looks like from the comments this is happening a lot. Called back on my throw away phone. "This is Lisa with Reward Redemption. You recently visited one of our websites (did not!) and in appreciation we have a $100 rebate card for you redeemable at blah blah blah. Press 1 to get your card and 2 to opt out". Since I was on my throwaway phone I pressed 1 and surprise surprise!!!! And INDIAN scammer voice came on saying "Welcome and this is your rebate card officer, okay?" OKAY! So when I hear an Indian voice and the word OKAY! I am gone. Blocked on my cell phone. Creeps. Don't understand why they call and hang up on people unless they are just looking for a live number to call them back. That is why I use a throw away phone. Scam Scam Scam Creeps!!
I think you nailed it, @PookieOokie. They want to be called back because then 1) they find out it's a live number and 2) they figure they have a lot better chance of perpetrating their scam. You should report what happened to the FTC. They should shut that number down.
I have done that so many times! They are on a VOIP and they will just change their number or you will find it disconnected. They may be idiots but they know how not to get caught especially since they are in another country. But thanks anyway. They are just looking for a live number. Why waste their time and money trying to get someone on the phone when they just have to wait for someone to call back? I am beginning to hate that word OKAY?
