I just received a text message from someone identifying themselves as "Patricia Melvin". The text reads, "This is patricia melvin [sic] I am hearing impaired, can you handle website design for new company and do you accept credit card payment?"
Think I'll respond and say that I've read reports of her previous scams, but would be glad to help for payment in advance and upon clearing of the check.
I got a text message from this same woman, identifying herself as Patricia Melvin and that she wanted to expand her agro business in Florida (but it's a California number). She asked if I take credit cards and I responded that she should email me at my business address (very unsure how she would get my personal phone number in regards to my web design business). She said she already had a site made up but wanted it improved, et cetera. Thanks for your comments here as I was divinely curious as to how a person in CA would contact me in MS about a site in FL, without telling me who sent her my way. Patricia Melvin is an actual person living in CA, and works as a teacher for the Deaf somewhere (window is closed now) so there was some credibility to it, it seemed. I do hosting but, after reading this, simply informed her that she should just have her "project coordinator" go to godaddy and create a site for her to save some money.
