Message was left on my unlisted fax line. Guess the fax was turned off that day. And yes, said they were the IRS and a suit was being filed on me. I got a laugh from it, saved it for my kids and googled it to see how many complaints there were on the calling number. I would hope we are all smart enough to realize a scam when it pops up, I guess some are not and that is a bad thing....
There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.
USA tax payers should read this:

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.
Educational post:
This scam is also described as scam #11, here:

Remember to return here, to 800notes.com, after you look at any of the information at that site, either to post more information, or to let us know you avoided the scam, or to read any further information about that number that others may post.
I just received this phone call today. I was out plowing snow and missed the call,so they left a message on my machine ..,like others have stated the massage stated that it was the IRS and a suit has been filed because of back taxes..
Figuring it was a scam, I called the number left in the message, and on the other end I got a very poor English speaking Asian woman. (at least that what she sounded like to me).. She answered "IRS...what you call for?"...lol..I asked to speak with someone who spoke better english about my case....she informed me she spoke english very good and that she can help with the lawsuit filed against me about the back taxes that were listed against my name...Hmmm...I then asked what name she had that showed I owed anything? (I never gave my name)...she said she would need my name in order to tell me that...when asked how they knew I owed back taxes without knowing my name, ..she "politely" said .."have a nice day and F**k you"...lol
I then came and did a quick search and this site was the first to pop up with the problem reported.....
as bad as the english and connection was (besides the fact that it drew every red flag imaginable)..i hope there is no-one who could seriously fall for anything like this.
Yeah, I just fell for it! i burst into tears. They were 2 indian people, thought it was a woman, but said her name was Jimmy Davis, I don't think so. Could not understand them either, asked to be transferred to someone who spoke clearer english, they said they are transferring to their boss, another indian???!!! Bawling!!! Don't know how they got name, it is my mom's nick name, not proper name and her # is not attached to this #. Im just calming down now, but SOMEONE needs to find these awful people!
Got a message on my cell phone from 210-485-5445 that said they were the IRS and that they were filing suite and this was final notice. Called back they can't speak English & only wanted me to give them information. They told me if I wouldn't give them information I was just wasting their time & should just hang up & they would just continue the suite. I found this same # listed as fraud on many searches. I called the REAL IRS just to make sure my SS # was clear with them as I knew it was but I just wanted to be sure. I blocked the number on my cell.
