Received a call at 8:45 am. Was told there is a problem with my computer. This was the first time from a number in NYC. Most often they are from a CA or TX number and I ignore them. People with an Indian accent. I was scammed about a year ago, but was lucky and realized it, and disputed the charge on my cc.
I received a call from this number at 7:45 AM from someone identifying himself as being from a company whose server was being corrupted by my computer. As he explained all the worms and viruses I was causing their system I interrupted him to ask what the name of his company was, he quickly hung up. When I called the number,(212-584-0021), back, the message was that the call could not be completed at this time, meaning that this is a rerouted number or a blocked number. They are trying to get into your computer to steal your identity and whatever else they can get. DO NOT BE FOOLED, this is a crime from a criminal group preying on trusting and unsophisticated individuals, they need to be caught.
i get calls like this quite often, after saying hang on a moment then continue watching tv or working in the yard just dont hang up and lay the phone down so they can hear everything, they seem to have caught on as now they will wait (up to 35min so far) so now i bought a small air horn at the $ store and just say sec as i grab it and blast them :)
A man called me at 9:35 am, saying he was from "the technical security department" or some such generic department. When I asked of what business he just repeated the department, with the heavy indian accent, and said that my computer had notified them of a problem. It was obviously ridiculous so I hung up then.
