Got a call around 8:30 pm telling me that Windows has been receiving error messages from my computer. Went along with him for a while, played dumb so he went to get a "supervisor," and I hung up. Tried calling 212/828-9094==not in service.
Scam!
This is a scam! They claim to be Microsoft and that they're calling to fix an issue with your computer. Microsoft DOES NOT EVER DO THIS so hang up before they talk you into hacking your computer for them.
The caller said they were calling with Microsoft and that they were alerted to my computer sending in information that was going to make my computer crash. When I asked how they got my number they said from my zip code and then tried to verify my address (which was incorrect).
Then they told me I needed to be on my computer so that he could tell me what to do. When I insisted that he just give me the information and refused to connect to the internet, he disconnected the call.
They just called me today stating that my computer had some infected files like a previous post stated and that they were from microsoft. I only answered the call because I have family that lives in NYC and thought it was a family member. Needless to say I knew it was a scam and I told him that I do not have a Windows operating system I have Linux and they hung up.
I just received a phone call from this number. I told him only my kids use the computer with Microsoft installed. He kept saying, "You are the main user, right?" You write emails?" I told him no, that my kids use it for only off-line games. He hung up on me!
Definitely trying to scam people. Like others, I got a call from this idiot saying something about downloading something from the internet from a computer that I own and he wasn't selling anything. I asked him what computer. At first he didn't answer, so I inquired again and he replied Windows 7. I told him that I am running Linux and then he asked if I was so and so. Told him no and that he got the wrong number. He ended the call stating that he must have dialed the wrong number. If you received a call from this number, don't pick up or waste your time.
