I received several calls from Dell USA offering to sell me an extended warranty on a Dell computer for which the warranty has long been expired. This was not the first company to contact me implying a connection to the Dell Computer Company. In researching the earlier calls, I found out that the other companies had no real connection with Dell but were using the company's name as part of their own to imply they did and gain potential client trust. None could provide any link to the Dell Computer website. The same was true for this company. They had the last four digits of one of my credit cards but began asking for other critical information (SSN, the card's current expiration date, etc.). I asked them to send me the request in email and they refused. I asked them to read me the I.D. and/or model number of my Dell computer and they refused, claiming that they did not "keep" such personal information. Gotcha. Identity theft detection. Watch out for these folks. At the very least, they're going to rip you off for the cost of their so-called warranty service. At worst, they're going to steal your identity and everything that goes with it.
I received the same call. However, what's weird is that it is always at the most inconvenient times. I have received several calls on Sunday as well. When I did answer, there was such a delay in response to my "Hello" that I just hung up.
I had purchased a Dell 2 years ago through my employee sales channel here at work and now I've had 6 incoming calls from this number in the last 2 days. One went to voice mail and the only thing recorded was another phone ringing in the backround. I remember that area code 213 is LA; I have no connection there so I don't pick up the call.
They will call multiple times during the day and never leave a message. I called Dell to ask them about this and they said that they haven't called us at all recently. So these people are scammers.
