FYI, I Did get a phone call from an agent investigating a complaint I'd filed with the DNC.
I had provided a very concise listing of a number of calls from one telemarketer, right down to dates and exact times of their numerous calls, and was businesslike enough that he knew I'd be a credible witness.
Comical, when he called me, and got my outgoing voicemail message stating that I didn't accept a list of call types that includes telemarketers and a host of others, he left a message with the thought that he might be on my list, too, and wouldn't hear back from me. We had a good laugh over that when I returned his call.
Not as effective as we'd like, yes, but it looks like there are a few teeth in there that might bite a telemarketer now and then.
I suspect that a single call reported might not rally the troops, but there is life in there for a seller who makes too many calls. The complaint will need to be businesslike and well documented
Glad to hear that they did something! I try to document with exact day time and all other pertinent info. I've even given the exact business name twice. I've never heard back from anyone but the telemarketer! But I have hope!
donotcall.gov is worthless because the FBI refuses to investigate or prosecute white collar crime. Arrests of white collar crimes do not get FBI agents promoted.
The DNC Registry and FBI are two separate entities. The DNC is just a section within the FTC. Not even an agency. Its purpose is to maintain a list. Just a list. Nothing more. Not a call blocker, never created or intended for anything else. It administers Fines only to Registered American based businesses who are required to purchase the list. It is not a law enforcement function. It is for nothing else but to maintain the list for those registered businesses. The criminals and scofflaws that call are what the FBI is for
and should be reported as such. Two separate things.
I kept getting spam calls and fake govt agency calls for a while. I tried the donotcall stupid thing. If anything, the calls increased. Then a cousin of mine asked me if I still had the original battery in my cell phone. Sure did. He took it out and peeled the label. There was this printed circuit thing that had leads connected to the battery contacts inside the label. I got a replacement battery and the 20 plus calls per day stopped. The only spam call I got so far was this one. And it has been two years. Go figure.
