Received this call with caller ID saying 'TEST'. No message so I wasn't going to answer. I have had a landline since 1970 and of this last year have had so many robo-calls that I seriously consider dropping my line. As I've retired, I have no debt other than utilities, so I refuse to answer a call that I don't know. Word to the wise, no matter who they may claim to be, make them send you a paper bill. This way you protect yourself against scams and Identity theft. As far as I know, fraud by mail is a Federal offence, but to hard to trace via phone as many can originate overseas using the internet to jump to landlines.
Today, the Caller ID says, "Card Services."
Just another scam call, what a surprise.
The call came in on the Comcast landline that we had disconnected because 99% of the calls received were scams or solicitations. It was disconnected for three or four weeks, but we then discovered in order to get the Comcast services we wanted, it had to be active to get the lowest price. This makes no sense, but nothing about Comcast does. The line was reactivated and I believe it was within 12 minutes that the first scam call came through. We have the ringers turned way down and voicemail has been deactivated. This is something Comcast has to do, as they do not make it an end-user option. So, count on 30 minutes on the phone to get that accomplished. But we just use our cells for incoming calls and have the landline for outgoing and fax use. It has been just under 48 hours and I think we have only gotten six scam calls. This is an enormous decrease from before it was temporarily disconnected. But then I am not monitoring it that closely, so that number could be much higher.
If anyone out there has the option to ditch your landline, do it and don't look back. The instantaneous peace and quiet we enjoyed when it was disconnected was wonderful. Maybe, if enough people start to do this, the phone providers will address the issue of eliminating these calls. It is impossible to believe the technology to do this does not exist and would be easy to implement. They are somehow making more money delivering these calls than not, but won't if enough people cut the cord.
