STATES THIS IS A LEGAL SERVICE FOR THE IRS AND IF I DON'T PAY THEM A MINIMUM OF 500.00 BEFORE I DISCONNECT CALL THEY WILL HAVE ME ARRESTED. I CALLED THE IRS AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT IS A SCAM THAT THEY WOULD NEVER HAVE ANYONE ARRESTED OR CONTACT SOMEONE BY PHONE. BE CAUTIOUS OF THIS NUMBER AND DO NOT GIVE ANY BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION OR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!! NO ONE AT THIS PHONE # IS AMERICAN THEY ARE ALL FOREIGN FROM CALIFORNIA. I WAS TOLD TWICE THAT I WAS GOING TO BE ARRESTED WITHIN 45 MINUTES AND I AM STILL WALKING FREE!
Stated to represent the Department of Justice and that my current issues with IRS were now revoked. Threatened with legal action unless an agreed settlement is paid. All a scam.
I received a call from this number a few days ago and again this morning. The individual, with what sounded like an Indian accent, identified himself as Steve Daniels. He advised that he was with the US Treasury Legal Department and that I had not paid all my taxes. He said that they would be sending someone out to arrest me. I asked him what I should do, that I did not owe any taxes. He replied that he would call the IRS and call me back. I told him that he was running as scam and he hung up. I am a retired IRS Special Agent and know that the IRS would never do what he did. In addition, there is no such department as the Legal Department of the US Treasury Department that uses a phone bank to call taxpayers. I could hear a number of people talking in the background of this call.
He did not tell me how I could solve the unpaid taxes, but I am sure that he wanted money. Individuals should not be concerned if they are called. This is a scam.
I received 2 voice mails from 213-289-3782 that her name was Caroline Miller with the Department of Legal Affairs and that I needed to call back or have an attorney call back to avoid legal problems. I did not call back. Any legal problems would be handled by mail, certified mail, or a legal process server in the State of WA, not by phone.
