The fraudster left a message on my phone stating he was from the US Treasury and I had done a "Serious Addition???" and to call him back and cooperate. Very thick accent.
Exact same scenario. Recorded message, he called 3 times in one hour. I called the number given, but there is no such number. It's probably a link through directly to Asia. Accent was Indian/Pakistani. Obviously not really from the government, but I don't see how the scam works if it's not a live person and the callback number doesn't exist.....
Just received a call from this number 213-293-3920 from Steve Modern(?) or Martin telling me that federal action would be taken against me about something regarding the US Treasury. He said I might have to go before a Magistrate Judge if I don't call him back.
I haven't called. Don't intend to. But has anyone called back? What does he say?
I've had 4 calls from this dumb-[***] today!! What is their purpose in making these calls? Makes no sense at all. It's stupid! Definitely not the U.S. Treasury. Blocking the number, reporting number. Sad state of affairs when people resort to this mess!!
Received two calls on Saturday from Steve Modern; I could hardly understand what he was saying, but did understand that if I did not respond, it would be considered a second offense and I would have to appear in front of federal magistrate or grand jury. I figured it was a scam (the calls came early Saturday morning and the caller never identifies us by name). When I tried to call back, I get a busy signal. If he calls again, I will report it.
Claims to be with IRS. Says pay now or law enforcement will be notified immediately and a bench warrant issued. Will go to prison for at least a year. Says his name is Steve Martin. SCAM!
Do not pay this person anything. Report to FTC.gov.
