My Cell Phone # is on the do not call registry (for cell phones) and I do not do any business (past, present, or future) with the compay tied to this phone number. The phone call was placed on 9-20-2010 at 8:48pm just shy of the 9pm cut off (legal call time(s) alotted).
I frequently get calls from 213-725-5285, but don't recognize the # on caller ID, so don't answer it. Today I tried to call the number back and couldn't get a ring. I figured it might be a computer calling some telemarketing thing, but getting the calls is annoying. I am on the do not call list.
I have been receiving two daily calls from this spoofed # (213-725-5285) for the last 2 (TWO) months. I have re-registered myself with the DoNotCall database. This has had NO effect. The numbers originate from another area (Not LA @ 213). These folks in the call center are using a specialized 800 transfer to local POTS number (that are leased by multiple services) that changes. I have stopped my attempts to block this company's CID. I ordered med online ~6 months ago. This is just 1 of the parties that was sold/rented my personal info. They have also called my cell phone. If I am @ home during a campaign, first the home phone rings and the answering machine picks up on 2 rings. Then, the 15 seconds of silence or various tactics start. The cell call follows within the next minute. Never a message, as far as I can detect. The following activities are tactics done intentionally to disturb:
TACTICS
1) Background noise from a large call center
2) Music on hold
3) Operator dialing error messages (various)
4) Non-English gibberish or personal (IPOD) music for the full 90 seconds then busy signals after the voice-mail recording window has been reached.
Since I cannot stop these calls, I no longer am bothered. I will occasionally Google the number to see if it is properly geo-located. Usually the caller is using one of these special 800 transfer to local service , or it could be a VOIP call. Very creative methods to usurp any detection and stopping the call. I will NOT talk to anyone who does not have the common courtesy to leave a VM message. Screening calls is the method that works for me.
Still another annoying "out of area" telemarketer (I assume) - or maybe one of the "usual suspects" - but calling from a different number.
I take the phone off the hook for a split second and immediately hang up.
It would make me feel so much better if I could believe some sleazeball on the other end of the line is as frustrated by my behavior as I am by his - or hers!
Called three times in 3 hours. My daughter answered the last call and advised the caller that we had looked the number up on line and intended to report it to the FCC.
