I have just received my 15th or so call from this phone #213-965-3964, I'm not risking calling it back just incase it's one of those phone numbers that have been on the News recently for scams associated with your phone bill.
A gentleman named "Mulscrit" ?? (at least that was how it sounded when he said it several times to me after I had asked). He had a very thick accent of some kind....could barely make out what he was saying to me and I had to ask him multiple times and had to ask him to repeat things. He said that I was "randomly selected" for a US Grant from Commonwealth in the amount of $7649... because I am not behind on my taxes, I don't have a criminal record, and supposedly this was some "Free" money that they were going to give me for being a "good person with a good record". I shred most of my documents with my name or family members names or personal information to protect myself and my family from being taken advantage of by some schmoe on the other end of the phone calling from God only knows where...so here's the million dollar question; how does this particular schmoe know my name, phone number & address???
He wanted me to give him my bank account number or checking account number, a credit card or Walmart credit/debit card (as if I'm to believe that the Commonwealth is now giving you money via one of those methods rather than just sending a check and letter on letterhead stating a reason why I was receiving this large amount of money). Seriously!!
This number has been repeatedly calling me, when I first started getting the first few calls I answered and they hung up. I stopped answering till today when I had to say "Hello" several times before getting a response from a very thick-accented/broken English speaking man. This is getting very annoying to have these strange #'s constantly calling at all hours of the day/night...I mean really who calls and doesn't say anything at 4:30 am!?!?! It's getting old....can we figure out who these people are and stop them from continuing this...what I believe to be fraudulent activity. No one just gets random "Free" money & legitimate businesses don't call at such an early time of the morning.
I have been receiving these calls. I finally answered today and was told by a man with a foreign accent that I was eligible for a government grant for $7,600 because I have never been arrested, he then asked me if I had ever been arrested and I said well, isn't that why I was selected I have never been arrested? Then he wanted to know how I would spend the money and that I can't use it for bad things like drinking, drugs or gambling. I told him I'm not answering questions for him until I find out how I get the money (I clearly new this was a scam). He told me all I would have to do is provide my checking account number. I laughed at him and said, it could be more believable if you spoke English and then I told him I am reporting him and hung up on him. He called me right back and said it's really easy to get this money just provide an account that has a $0.00 balance. I told him I was reporting him and he said there was nothing to report. I told him stop calling me and hung up. The day before I had my son answer and told him it was Santa Clause....LMAO, they hung up when they heard my son's voice.
