Scam!!! He said his name was Sam Williams Employee ID: AV547 and he provided the 214-717-6789 number. Our caller ID system said it was from a local Hotel and Conference room so I called the hotel while still on the phone with the scammer on the other line to see if they could track this scammer down.
I received a call claiming to represent my cell phone company (Bell). They said I won a random draw for a new phone (Sam Sung) and a plan for $25 a month.
In my confusion I did give them my name and address, but then stopped when they asked for my SIN. I told them I would check with customer service by calling back to verify myself. They gave me a number for their customer service that was the same number that they were calling from.
I have not verified that this is a scam with Bell yet, but I think it is obvious. I don't think I ever gave my SIN even with my real account.
Yesterday, this number called me 8 times while I was at work, so I finally answered it today and first they claimed they were from Bell (which is what I thought they said) and then they said something about looking at a website which was solo mobile. He had a heavy accent and I couldn't understand a majority of what he said but it was generally the same deal. He asked for my name and address so that he could create an account for the phone and I also gave them that info but then he asked for my license number, so I told him I would have to call him back. The number he gave me wasn't associated with Bell or Solo. So I called Solo and they said that it wasn't them. So as far as I know, this is a scam.
