Man in very broken English (mid-East accent) said he was from Windows technical support and that my computer was sending them warning messages that my IP address had been hijacked and for me to go turn my computer on right now & he would show me. I told him I couldn't get to it and he sounded surprised & said "why". Told him it was all disconnected b/c I was moving it to a new address. Sounds like a scam to me so they could hijack my IP address. Hung up on him.
"Steve" (this time) said he was Global Technical Support or Windows Tech. - that our computer had been hacked and he could help us 'fix' it.. Asked for his phone number to call him back, and he couldn't even put together a string of numbers into a phone number (415-2300-332 ?) definite mid East accent
They've called me multiple times a day for months, never leaving a message. I finally picked up and when the woman said I was showing problems with my "Windows computer", I informed her I don't have a "Windows computer". She thanked me and hung up. Don't give up any information, keep your cool, and bing - they will leave you alone because you're not a target anymore.
A heavily accented person calling himself "Jack" with Global Tech support called to tell me about my Windows opperating system. I told him I didn't have a Windows operating system. Very persistent, wouldn't give up and kept telling me someone was hacking my ip address and to go turn on my computer and they would tell me exactly what was wrong and what to do about it. I repeated myself, asked the name of his company and asked for a web address where I could get more info. I told him I would get a local technician to help me. He said the only two people in the world that would know the number was me and them and no one else could help. He was very persistent again and I finally hung up. They have called several times a month even when I got rude and demanded that they not call again. Maybe next time i'll pick up and blow a loud whistle in the phone before they can start their "advice."
Caller with broken English said they were getting msg from my computer and I needed to get on it.....I cut the woman off at that point in the conversation and hung up
I figured if there was a problem I would call my own tech support my self but I googled the phone # first
Can't remember the co name they used buty first apprehension came from the fact it was a 215 area code and not an 800 #
