Just receive this call many times. Voice mail message just left threatening message from US Treasury.
Hope that the law enforcement will catch these crooks.
4 calls with same recorded message, repeated multiple times each call, within 1-1/2 hrs.
Calls from (215) 734-0221 and (215) 734-0222.
Called back and the representative identified himself as "Albert Peter", employee #11525 of the Department of Affairs, US Treasury. He stated I owed back taxes for 2009... that a warrant was being issued for my arrest.
After a brief, no-personal-info-offered-by-me conversation, he transferred me to "Robert Matthews"... when I realized this was a good-cop bad-cop routine. I then asked "Robert" for my social security number, at which point he hung up.
Bottom line is, no matter how much you get pressured, online, on-phone, NEVER NEVER NEVER give ANY personal information. Your best recourse is always to call the bank, insurance company, IRS etc directly yourself... and if it is a link in a realistic-looking website form that you are being asked to click, e.g. a bank site, it is best to open a new tab or browser window and then type the correct link in yourself, e.g. www.<yourbank>.com. This is true even for a link embedded in an email message.
In closing, it makes me happy to know that most people would still jump into the river to save a drowning child... but how do these scam-artist people go home at night and tell their family and friends that they did good work today?
