I will mention here again the DNC list is working as it was passed. Do you get any calls from legitimate telemarketers anymore? No? All you get are scam-type calls? Those calls really do come from India (and other places) and, believe it or not, they don't follow US laws. I don't know to what extent the Indian government tries to crack down on this crap, but it seems to me that they don't give a damn about US citizens being ripped off.
Sorry for the sarcasm, but I hate to see people harping on a law that is working. If you weren't on DNC, you would be getting calls during dinner trying to sell you condos.
It's quite easy to drop the number of calls you get simply by providing NO answer at all. They know they can count on getting some kind of answer from you, they'll be calling for a live voice. Three things are required to stop them: patience, tolerance, and the ability to completely miss calls. If you risk missing important calls, a call blocker may be the best move.
I got a call from this number. A foreign sounding girl who said the same line twice after I told her I was not interested. She said it dealt with funeral insurance and it was available for my state. I hung up and wondered if this was a scam for senior citizens. I am in my 40's.
My home phone # is unlisted. Don't know how this scammer from "Senior Benefits" got my #. I told them immediately:
"remove this # from your call list."
2 minutes later they called my cell...and hung up before I even finished the above sentence ("take this # off your call list") BLOCK THIS # from your phone
