9/29/14 - Received a call from this # 216 894 3535, woman with a heavy Indian accent stated she had called several times over the last few days/weeks to notify us of a technical problem with window on our computer to which I answered, oh really.. give me a good number where I can call you back, she said that she couldn't do that. I told her I seriously doubted there was any problem with windows, because we didn't have windows, she hung up!
Beware!!
Yeah, aren't area code blocks the greatest? Called multiplier, you are able to block thousands of numbers with just one entry in the call blocker. Caveat is that you don't have a single honest caller from that area code, in this case Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, OH area.
The only reason you are being dialed is because of ROBOdialing. So the auto dialed part already happened. Your call blocker kicks in after the first "ring" when the caller ID number is recognized as being on your blocked list. So your call blocker blocked the ROBO message. You may not audibly hear a ring if you have first ring set to off, but to get the caller ID signal, your phone must receive at least one ring.
One item to consider is that caller ID name and number can both be modified. If you notice that the caller has an accent that is not American, then can rest assured that the call very likely comes from Indian subcontinent or Caribbean call centers. Believe it or not, foreign companies can and do buy blocks of U.S. wireless numbers (usually 1000 at a time). So, yes, as far as caller ID on your phone, the call may look like Wireless Caller/Calle/Callin/Call from 216 area code. But they are not calling FROM Ohio or anywhere within U.S. You could try call trace *69 to definitively find what number is calling you, but without a police report, you have wasted $5.65 or whatever it currently costs. And if call originated from outside of continental U.S., there is no way to trace through all the circuits to the precise number. Besides, outside of U.S., a police report has no validity or jurisdiction.
They are SCAM ARTISTS!! They say 'hello, I am calling to help you with your computer...' and go on to say "I" have an issue with Windows that they will fix. This has been on the news and going around for awhile. I asked them to repeat what they said and lady went on about how I have an issues with Microsoft Windows and she is calling from 'their' support to fix. This will NEVER happen as Microsoft, Apple, Dell will NEVER call you for this. Hang up on them!
They are relentlessly calling me from this number, The Verizon lady connected me to the Verizon Nuisance bureau, they connected me to the FBI/ trade commission or something like that. They have been trying to catch these thieves for awhile. I asked how they knew my name & that I just bought a windows 7. They said the micro soft registration file was hacked by these scam artists, ( I did recently find & buy a new windows 7 ) They call at all hours of the night & early morning to startle people. They don't give up. They suck
