The best way to mess with these people is tell them you'll donate so have them send you a bill then send it back with no money and write on the bill to take you off their list. They get no money and it cost them postage.
Got a call from this person last week saying that they're collecting money for Illinois families of cops killed in the line of duty. And then he said, "Do you still live at (my home address)?", and I said, "No." and hung up. I wrote down, "possible police impersonation". It felt very threatening. I don't have caller id, but I did a *69 reverse look-up and it said the last incoming call was 217-483-9596. It was at the end of May 2008 at 5:59pm.
Caller kept interupting me when I said that I had made a donation (stupid me) 2 months prior. He said it could not have been them since they only solicit once per year. I then asked where my check went (very small, trust me) and he sarcasticallly said, "How am I supposed to know!?" I ended the call. I wish I had checked Lisa Madigan's website regarding such organizations before donating. Don't respond. Best to ignore the call when popping up on the caller ID.
same [***], different day. just because they have a name with "police" in it doesn't give them the right to bother people, yet they think it does. just another cold calling scam for money, what else?
Called 5:54pm 8/5/08 - Claimed to be the Police Protection Fund for fallen officers in the Waukegan, IL area--why would a downstate number be calling for Waukegan (far northern IL)? Politely hung up when I said "We don't donate to anything over the phone."
