I get called numerous times a day from this number. First time I picked up (a little over a month ago), I was told by a very foreign sounding guy that I won a $50 dollar Walmart gift card. I hung up on him. That day, I added my number to the FCC's Do Not Call registry. After a month, I am still getting numerous calls. I filed a complaint. Still getting calls, although now it doesnt ring for the full time and hangs up around 7 seconds of ringing. After reading the many MANY people on here that said they filed complaints, in addition to myself filing a complaint, and how this is still happening, I have no doubt: this is a phishing attack.
I looked up the area code (217) and found it to be central Illinois, specifically Springfield. The fact that the man I spoke to sounded like he was from out-of-country, this leads me to the conclusion that they are using some sort of phone proxy located in Illinois. However, the calling location is most likely overseas, and perhaps in multiple countries.
The fact that this clearly could be labeled "telemarketing", that the "company" is not affiliated with the FCC Do Not Call registry (which is, by the way, required by US law for all related businesses other than "political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors" *as quoted from the official website), has suspicious behavior, then they need to be from overseas.
Most cell phone companies have a call block feature. Stick it on there and youll be fine.
I just received a call from this number on my cell I too live in the chicago land area. Funny thing is I don't shop online so haven't a clue what website the are talking about. I don't use my cell phone for internet purposes either and if I have to give out a number I use my land line.
