You can file a complaint on the do not call web site. You can also call the FTC. People like this are not doing a service to anyone especially those they are trying to collect for because of there ignorance. Most importantly is not to let these kind of calls upset you. As soon as you decide they are not going to get to you the calls are no longer upsetting. Pick the call up and hang up right away. They can't leave you a message but they sure will be getting one from you that your not going to take there harrasment anymore
Nicely put! I get the same thing...224... local office. Here in chicago, 224 is used for cell phones but Local office?? They must think local consumers are as stupid as they are!
Sometimes, screening with CI works just as well. IF you dont recognize them, dont answer. Most of these types of calls hit my MJ number, when CID shows that they are no one I recognize I just ignore them. If they cant send something in writing to me , they are not legit collectors.
The Do Not Call list doesn't apply to debt. The Do Not Call list is for telemarketers.
What you can do if you know this is not your debt is send them a letter stating that this is a Cease and Desist. You can google a form letter to use but this will force them to only correspond with you via mail. When you send this letter to them you need to send it and send it registered that you require a signature otherwise the collection agency, if they are being deceptive, can say they didn't receive it. Believe me, collection agencies have to sign for things all the time. The receptionist will sign for it with no problem and you will get the receipt with the signature. At that point they are allowed to call you once more time to tell you what their intentions are and then may not call.
If you have any other questions or issues let me know and I will do my best to help you.
