Thank you Kat. You are so right. I just went through this but the second I got hit up for money I knew what it was! And thank you DR PHIL!!! It's so very sad. This breaks my heart for me and especially for those who actually paid.
Sweet Jeebus! Forgive me if this sounds harsh, but...if your mom is competent enough to use her computer for online dating, can't she also use it to google (or read the news or watch Dr. Phil (or Dateline or 20/20) clips or ANYthing else) lol?!? I mean, I truly don't understand how someone--in America--with access to cable TV, a browser with a Yahoo homepage or [again] ANYTHING along those lines could fall prey to one of these scam artists! So, take a hint from the above and do a search for 'online dating scams' or 'catfish' or 'dangers of dating on the web' and help open up your Mom's eyes to the danger lurking out there in the wild, wild, interwebs ;-).
[update] Yikes, I've just read MANY of the entries following this one and am stunned to see NUMEROUS women falling for this...It wouldn't have shocked me so badly say, 2-3 years ago, but to see women—in 2013/14—duped by their own desperation more than the con-men themselves is just flabbergasting! :-( God. Best of luck to you ladies. No matter who you are, what you look like, how much or how little you make, whatever mistakes you've made in the past or drawbacks you THINK you have; you are worth more than some guy blowing smoke up your [***] and asking you for a SINGLE PENNY. No respectable man will EVER ask a woman for money (unless it's his mom and he truly deserves it ;-) and you gals deserve a RESPECTABLE MAN. Hold out for him and don't sell yourselves short in the meantime.

I met this guy on a social network, saying that he is from Boson MA and work for Chevron as a marine engineer and has a son in a marine academy in London. He said he was so in love with me cand couldn't live with out me. Few weeks afte he told me that he was so sad because he use towork in London and they paid him off and he took the money and invest it in gold and diamonds and had deposit in a Company by the name of WAG Global Company he gave me the web site of the company and I started receiving e-mail from them asking me for money to receive the package. Then he needed money for his son in school and finally he ave me this number to call his spiritual father a Pastor Prince Raymond in Jacksonville Florida for him to give me reference from him, but it is also a magic jack number and I received a recording saying that in order for the call to go through the magic jack number needs to call first in order to register the number. I am scared because he also use to be in contact with my daughter
