I received a call from "Sharon" in the "technical department" who had received reports that my computer was having connectivity problems, and that it was likely due to something I downloaded. She graciously offered to help me, so I played along for a little while. Eventually, before doing anything that could allow her to connect to my computer, I asked her what type of computer she thought I had. When she gave the wrong answer, I asked how her report would know my computer was having trouble but not know whether I had a Mac. She hung up.
A minute later, "Sharon" (the only sharon I know with a HEAVY indian/pakistani accent) called back. Because she had heard my children in the background, she told me I was the babysitter, later said I was the "slave" caring for the children, and wanted to talk to my wife (since Sharon is certain that my wife owns the computer). Despite my requests to the contrary, she insisted they would call back to speak to my wife - the slave owner.
I constantly receive calls from various #'s trying to sell this scam. I'm answering them now just to burst their bubble. Today it was 'Kate" with a very heavy accent. I kept her on the phone for 10 minutes and when she instructed me to turn on my PC, I told her my PC has been unplugged for 6 months and to please hold while I vacuum and dust it off first. She hung up on me. :-P
Today i was called my a male man from this number. He had a very thick accent. What he told me was that they were getting messages from my computer and the reason of his call was that he was going to show me how to fix it. He told me to go to this website www.support.me . And when i went on the website it asked me for a 6 digit code. He told me to go ahead and type the code he was going to give me from my microsoft computer. I have an apple computer.! I hung up and they kept calling about four times
