I received a call from this number but it was showing a friends name in the caller I'd so I didn't look at the number and answered thinking I would be speaking to my friend...wrong. I interrupted the caller who identified himself as Ray. My friend's name is not Ray. Ray was not showing in the caller I'd. We was soliciting for law enforcement. I received the call at 11:45 a.m. on 5/25/17.
When you get these calls and answer, then no one is there, it is what is called a "predictive dialer". I know cuz I worked on these types of systems. What happens is the computer is loaded up with numbers, or it just dials numbers in numerical order. It is called "predictive" because it "predicts" how long each telemarketers will be on each call and "predictively" dials the next number anticipating that one of them will be available by the time the call connects. Well, sometimes they get someone that is particularly chatty. So when you answer, no one is available to take the call. In that case, you get dead air and it just disconnects.
This is a scam. No legitimate law enforcement related organization will ever call to ask for a donation. Find a very loud whistle, call them back and blow the whistle as loud as humanly possible when/if they answer. Hopefully, the scumbag that picked it up will suffer some temporary hearing loss. Block the caller when you're done.
