this place is legitimate, they saved me $15,000 off my orig bal to settle out of court and then provided me with all the coorespondence i needed to prove that my bill was settled and i was no longer obligated to discover card services. not only that but i was able to verify that there was in fact a claim filed in my home county and i was able to save money on an attorney too by settling my acct out of court. to all the people that are angry, all i have to say is pay your bills, you know you owe the money, no point in running or making up some excuse for not being able to take care of your financial responsibilities. you know it belongs to you, so be an adult and take care of it you may actually be able to only pay pennies on the dollar.
Here's a report about this same number on WhoCallsMe:
"janmomaz - 18 Dec 2007 - We got this call from this number. Lady said you are being served - claim against us. I asked where is the paperwork -- if we are being served, we have to have it served by the court and not over the phone. She wanted our credit card number, expiration date and pin number AND credit card identifying number (the 3 digit code on the back of the card) to pay for a 'court claim' but she would never say for who. When I stated that we do not give out our credit info to companies we don't know, much less our pin or anything else - she hung up. Got another call but this time went to voice mail -- scare tactics - unfortunately we owe no old debts or anything -- this is a scam. Had no real info. Shady practices." You're right; it is a scam. And the caller's illegal behavior is very similar to the infamous Bass Associates/States Predisposition scam in Florida and Georgia that law enforcement is now pursuing. These crooks use many phony names and call from many area codes. (Here's a news article about them: http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/120107/met_221875639.shtml ) Their method of operation also resembles the illegal behavior of the Claims America/CMC Recovery/Emanee Development scam based in Buffalo, NY that routes calls through many area codes in an attempt to hide their identity. (This is a typical example: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-404-287-0204/2)
Whether it's the Bass or Claims America crooks or some other bandit, you may want to consider doing these things to protect yourself and other consumers:
1) Give them nothing. And tell them nothing other than to "cease all communication" with you. (And record their calls, if it's legal in your state.)
2) File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission here: https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01
3) File a complaint with your state's attorney general. The contact information for each state's attorney general is listed at www.naag.org Just scroll down to the national map and click on your state.
4) Contact an attorney to defend your rights and pursue these crooks. There are plenty of consumer law attorneys who work on contingency in matters like this. Here are links to websites that either provide attorney referrals or are law firms that specialize in suing outlaw debt collectors:
