I loved that you dedicated most of an episode of your show to this scammer. I busted out laughing when they wanted payment for back taxes in the form of Target Gift Card.
Goaded by the hilarious recording of this outfit on the online podcast of economist/historian Tom Woods (episode 730, Sept 5, 2016), I called this scam for myself. They claim to be the IRS, and demand payment of "unpaid" taxes in the form Target gift cards. They have anglicized names with thick Indian accents, and are not too bright. However, once they catch on that you are falling for the scam, they will hurl abuse and vulgarities on you. I found that I could stay on the line with them as long as I was willing to waste my time--even when it was clear that I was not going to pay them. File under really dumb criminals.
Yeah, I just spent some time on the phone having fun with them as well, and actually ended up having a "friendly" conversation with one of them. Once they realized I wasn't falling for their scheme, I started asking questions about the weather, and got them to tell me they were in Pakistan, and actually believe that this is a legitimate occupation.
After repeating everything they said for almost 20 minutes, and getting them (there were three of them finally) laughing, I got them to admit that they were in Pakistan. I asked why they called people pretending to be the IRS, and they said that it was their job. We talked for about another 10 minutes, and although they wouldn't give me any specific information about who they work for, they truly believe that they are doing a legitimate job and don't think there is anything wrong with what they are doing.
Indian caller, with english names, claiming I have flaws in my tax return from 2010 to 2014, and IRS filing a lawsuit against me. A warrant will be issued to the sheriff in my town with that matter, and I have to find a lawyer.
