Called and hung up when I answered - which is so typical of the scammers. If this is the police scam, then that is connected to the veterans scam which is connected to ...... Has been a scammy day here, and have to wonder why these idiots keep calling with the scams (no chance in hell that I would give out anything but made up financial info). Have tried blocking, never answering the phone, giving out bogus credit card information, and nothing stops the flow of scam calls. Lately, I just answer the phone and blather nonsense in another language. This is a travesty that these scammers are allowed to call endlessly without ANY repercussions. Seems like the phone companies could stop this endless harassment in a moment if they wanted to.
Man identifies himself as John, but it is always the same pitch: I answer the phone and it seems no one is there. I say "hello" several times and finally hear, "OH! Hello! This is John from..." and begins to name his charity. I say, "Hi John, are you a computer or a real person?" and then the line goes silent. I think I have my answer! Next time, same thing. The third time, I said, "John, are you a real person?" and there was a short silence and then he says, in a very small voice, "Yes." I didn't say anything, and then he started laughing hysterically. I think it may be a computer voice, like the woman that was calling so often - except there may be an actual person monitoring it, which would explain the hesitation each time I ask a question. Each time I've answered it is the same pause, and then a surprised "OH! Hello!" This has scam written all over it, and I have no plans to donate one dime to this phony outfit. Our police and firefighters work hard, but donations through something like this most likely never get to them. I finally blocked the number - would have earlier but always got the call when I was at the wrong phone for blocking numbers. BTW - wondering why "Scam" is not one of the choices for Call Type? It sure doesn't fit in any other category.
The caller was a well spoken, smooth talking, gentleman with a well rehearsed script. Collecting money for a police charity of some sort. As soon as I declined, he immediately came back with more pressure, and wouldn't let me get a word in. I had to hang up on him.
High pressured solicitation, I don't believe that's how a respectable charity works.
