I got the same lady and same number I called the grant dept and said it was probabl a scam and they dont solicit

I received this same phone call 253-292-2589 from a woman named Linda, says she is with the US govt. grants department, she sounded like she was from India. "I have been selected to receive a $7,000 grant from the govt. to never be repaid, how do I want this sent to me? How old am I? What is my birthtdate? She gave me account #. I told her to give me the number she was calling from and how she got my information and she kept repeating the same line that she was with the US govt. grants dept. blah, blah, blah. I asked her what guarantees me that when she hangs up and I call this phone number I won't receive a huge long distance bill from somewhere overseas. She said "I don't know and then hung up.

Received a call from Michelle Wilson/employee #K143/US Government Grant Dept (caller ID came up "unavailable").  Said I had been selected to receive $5000 grant, not to be used for criminal or illegal activity...asked why me?  She stated it was because I pay my bills on time, have no criminal record and have no bankruptcy.  She had my name, phone number and mailing address.  She asked for the last 4 digits of my social...I stated I do not give out my SS number.  She asked if I wanted the money deposited in my account, or did I want it sent by check, I said to just send a check.  She said to call back 253-292-2589 to confirm and get a check #, and I did.  I spoke to Raechel Sims.  She gave me the same scenario.  She said a check would be mailed out to me in 2-3 days for $5000, would not have to pay it back or pay any taxes on the money.  She asked if I was married or single, if I work full or part time, and "confirmed" how many children that I have.  Then she asked if there was a Western Union accessable to me...Yes.  She stated in order to receive this check I would first have to wire $99 for charity to help poor, homeless, or people in other countries.  I asked for her employee #, then was transferred to "Sr. Supervisor", Amanda. I told her that I thought this was just a scam, said a few "choice words" and she insisted that it was not.  I told her that I would be checking them out...she said that was fine.  I asked what their charity was, and was told "Indian/American Charity Foundation".  She told me to go and check out their website-www.governmentgrant.org.-I told her I intended to.  I asked her why the Government would give me a grant, and then ask me to wire money for a chaity first...don't you think people would want to do that out of the goodness of their hearts?  I promptly called the local BBB and reported the call and all details.  The BBB suggested that I contact the local Attorney General, and I did.  I called the local Attorney General's office and spoke with someone, she said this scam has been going on for quite some time now, and also said that you have to "apply" for a Grant, and that a Government website would end in .gov, not .org.  IF YOU GET A CALL FROM THESE PEOPLE-REPORT IT TO OFFICIALS...PLEASE.  DON'T LET THESE UNSCRUPLIOUS PEOPLE PREY ON US! WE NEED TO GET THEM SHUT DOWN.

Their very mention of Western Union should have sent the red flags flying.

The red flags did start flying, even sooner than that.  I was just playing along to see just how far these people would go to try to convince me that they are legitimate.  I was surprised when they didn't hang up on me with the "choice words" that I used.  Amazingly, they are very calm, and that makes them very dangerous to unsuspecting individuals.  Just the deep foreign voice was what first tipped me off, and the static of a very bad phone connection.  Just FYI...253-292-2589 is an Unpublished landline from Tacoma, Washington.
