Very pleasant young man, Devon, tried to sell me energy switch. Would not give him any info, and he said info is on my utility company bill (OTHER energy companies....ALL with bad reviews also say the same thing that info is on my bill. ) Yeah, but NOT all the companies call only that you can switch). Did some research and they have three bad reviews, none good that I could find. Normally would spend more time checking it out. He was prepared for EVERY question I threw at him, so they are sounding more legit. Also the name he gave was Sperian, although the call came from PA (he said I could call back for legitimacy), It is tough NOT to answer when you know the call is within short traveling distance from your home and could be a family member. If it had shown it was from out of state, I would not have answered. In the background, there were lots of voices speaking, so I am listing it as telemarket.
Put the blame where it really lay's, with the criminals and illegal telemarketers.
The DNC works just fine. It is for telemarketers only and honest business does indeed abide by it. It is the criminals (which includes illegal telemarketers), frauds and scammers that do not. However, the Fed. DNC does not cover some survey's, Political or Charities. You would need to check your states DNC laws to see if these are under your states DNC laws. The fact remains that they are not automatic call blockers though and can not protect you from the calls that are criminal, illegal or fraudulent.
Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
I have been receiving these phone calls for about a year now! Daily! When you call block them they call back on a different number sometimes the same area code sometimes different area codes! Now they have been able to get through with a less than 10 digit number, so you can't block them! I have been so frustrated I actually keep a whistle by the phone and have blown it in their ear after waiting for them to answer! usually stops them for a while! Other numbers I have blocked are 973-200-0096; 267-634-2192; 267-606-1174! With all of the technology in the world, why can't we do something about this?? Sooo frustrated!!
Received 3 calls today from this number. Added it to the Comcast block list (I'm now at 23 out of 25 allowed there) - and have 30 blocked on my Panasonic phone. I've received 7 calls today from various unwanted numbers, and I suppose it will just get worse now that politicians will be ramping up their campaigns. I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, however, it is a annoying. When i look up the numbers many of them are trying to sell medical insurance plans, electric providers, security systems, etc. When I need something I do my research and I make the contact - I won't buy anything from an unsolicited call. Although I usually don't answer the phone, once in a while I'll pick it up. I wear hearing aids and usually can't understand what they are saying anyway - I'll just set the phone down and talk to the dogs :)
