We have great credit, thankfully, but somehow my cell number became the target for collecting on a student loan. There were tons of calls (I never answered thanks to these websites) and then peace until today this number showed up. So not sure how my number got on their lists, I haven't had a student loan since 1983, and it was paid up long ago. Bless you all for reporting on these numbers.
You have resources to deal with these callers. ALL dealings with alleged creditors MUST BE IN WRITING and sent CERTIFIED with signature receipt. There is NO OTHER WAY. Telling them not to call will not work. Verbally asking for verification of a debt will not work. Under US Law, there are specific guidelines debt collectors MUST FOLLOW. You can do a Google search for Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and see if they are following the guidelines. If the creditor is not following these guidelines, document the infraction. The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) will not act on a single complaint (i.e. call you after or before the times allotted for them once, but not again.) If their infractions are repeated over several months, then then you may have legal recourse. The more you have on these creditors, they better of your chances to win a judgement or have the debt thrown out and off your report.
For three days they called. Every time I answered, they would hang up. Today I finally got a human when I called them back. I was asked if i was "so and so." I am not that person and they said they would not call my number anymore. I asked who they were and she said "Payton Crowell & Associates." An asset recovery company.
I have been getting calls from these people daily. ON MY CELL PHONE. They have asked for Carl, Erma, William....none of whom do I know. I called back and left a message telling them that if they called here again I would sue them...I'll be darned if they didn't call again. Next will be a complaint filed
This company calls multiple times a day. Never leaves a message and if I answer, they hang up. So I called the # back and someone answered. They told me that they never called, that it was their work phone. I told them to stop calling and they still have been calling every day
I often get calls from this number. Most of the time they just call and hang up or they ask for my mother, but there have been a few times where they actually spoke. Those times when I ask them to state their business they refuse to say why they are calling and just give give me different names (the few times I actually picked up the phone). The last time they spoke they gave me the name of Jake Snyder, but when I looked up the number the info said it belonged to aTate & Kirlin collection agency was Located in Pennsylvania (Levittown, Philadelphia). My mom has paid off all her debts and so there is no reason for a collection agency to hound us, besides isn't there some sort of law about collection agencies having to state who they are and not spamming you with phone calls (The type where they call and then hang up when you answer? The last two times they called (in a row) they just hung up after I said hello a couple of times. I am so tired of getting these calls that I have routed all my phone calls through an answering maching and if people don't talk to the machine, then they will never get to talk to us! I wish they would cease and desist the harrassing phone calls! Best Wishes, The Lost
