Sometimes these collection agencies are on "fishing expeditions", and call phone numbers that belonged to another person decades ago.
I receive dozens of calls from collection agencies for people with the last name `Smith`. I'm not a `Smith`, and no with access to our business phone number have the name `Smith`. We've had the same business phone number since 1980.
I assume that some people made up a phone number on their credit applications.
Telling these bozos that they have the wrong number and to take us off of their list is useless. I simply block their calls.
I got tired of the calls for some josh allen, I have had this verizon phone for over 6 years and they still keep calling. I finally started to answer unknown calls by saying "sheriffs dispatch", they always hang up immediately and never call back. It has pretty much stopped other than now and then, but never do they call back like they used to. Try answering with law office, sheriffs dispatch, or something like that and see if the calls dont stop immediately. It worked for me.
Love it.. I will now answer "SHERIFFS OFFICE" they do call me and they do have the wrong person no matter how many times I tell them.. wrong person please remove me.. nope
Debtor here reads like someone working for these scam artists, posting comments to make them seem legit. They are not. They do not follow the normal pattern of a legitimate collection agency. They call you multiple times per day (they can only legally call once per 24 hours). They call during odd hours - sometimes in the dead of night (a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Act). They ask for your full Social Security number, your ate of birth and your mother's maiden name (REALL!?). Do not fall for these scam artists. JUST HANG UP! Threaten to call the police, and if they call you again DO IT!
