We received a phone message saying that it was the IRS calling and that we had to call this number: 301 426 2928 and that a criminal case was being filed against me. I called the number and was told by someone "at the IRS in Washington" that we were being sued for tax fraud and tax evasion for a number of years. I was told the sherriff would appear at our door within an hour with the papers and a warrant for my arrest. I was then told that I could settle out of court if I paid the nearly $3000 they said I owed. I suspected a scam and asked for a phone number to call back. The guy asked if I was calling from my home phone or cell and my wife, wisely, said "Don't give them any information." I asked for an IRS number that I could call back and wasn't given one. The caller eventually hung up.
