Got one better for you guys. Got a call from "Alan Parker" from Nationwide Investigations for some friends I'm house-sitting for. Was asked my name and how I was related to my friend who was "being investigated for a criminal act", told him it was none of his business and asked to take a message. He got nasty and started telling me that I would be summoned to court to testify b/c I had taken the message. I told him fine just give me the message and I'd pass it along. I knew darn well that "investigators" don't tell you all that right off the bat, they finesse you first to see what you say, and how in the world would I be summoned if he didn't know who I was? These people prey on law abiding folks who are naturally shaken up receiving a phone call about "criminal activity". I admit it shook me and I passed the message right on through (whereas I found out it was a scam), after reading these posts I'm very thankful that I did not give him my name, he might have been calling me next.
Allan Parker, has been calling the last two days about "criminal activity" in the past that needs to be taken care of immediately before he has to serve warrants. He needed money right now to prevent this from happening. He also has the a company from Georgia that is doing the collecting. He sounds legit, but after talking with my lawyer, none of it is legal and is a scam. Do not give this guy money!! He has enough information to sound legit, but he isn't. Phone number is 301-358-5896
This same person has been contacting people in mine and my wifes family. Even disclosed the information of what this was about to my wifes mother, making threatening and malicious allegations to everyone he has contacted wich is a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices of 1977. I am currently gathering more information as to the company, and the caller.
Carl, I listened to your advice and I was detained for the charges Alan Parker had spoke to me about. I thought it was a scam, as you had said. I was pulled over for speeding and the officer came back and told me, I had a warrant for fraud by check, theft by deception, and hindering investigation. I was arrested and had to pay bail. I have to go to court for these charges and may have to spend time in jail and pay a fine. Alan had spoke to a firm about allowing me to pay restitution without being detained and I had set up a payment with the firm, but I chose not comply thinking it was a scam. I had told Alan about the FDCPA and he stated it was not a collection call. It turned out it was not a collection call and he was trying to help me out. Thanks Carl!!!
