A person named Rudy, claims to be a mediator but would not give any information about the company he is representing. Said he was mediating a contract for a payday loan but did not know the name of the payday loan store. He would not allow me to talk and was pressuring me to agree to a payment plan with him. I asked him for a call back number, he was getting angry when I wouldn't agree but left the number 301-358-6622. Also said no one there would know me but I should ask for Rudy. All the while pressuring me to agree to a payment plan. He also said six months of my bank statements were purchased from my bank.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Tammy and son Joseph
A man named Rudy calling leaving a message on my phone asking for my son and that he was in breach of a contract. When I called him back he was saying he was a mediator and needed my son to call him right away, to resolve the matter. He started yelling at me and said it was no laughing matter but he was yelling at me and I told him he was very rude and he was yelling at me more and I informed him he was yelling at me and no professional person from any where would not be doing this. He even then proceeded to yell at me more. He claims he talked to my son and my son was laughing at him. Also stated I was laughing at him. What kinda of people are these? He even stated he will be in touch with more family and friends until my son calls him back right away tomorrow. The man never told my son or myself where they were calling from and what place they were mediating for. I am really getting sick of these people bothering my family, , and my self.
